When we were approached to supply high-quality bespoke joinery for this prestigious development, we knew this would be an opportunity to showcase the craftsmanship and attention to detail that sets us apart.

This project demanded nothing short of perfection. The goal was to preserve the timeless charm of the property while incorporating the latest in joinery innovation. From sliding sash windows and custom front doors to a bespoke staircase , each piece needed to marry functionality with aesthetic elegance.

Crafted as a pair of 58mm-thick full-height glazed doors.
Manufactured with Accoya Timber and pre-finished using a three coat spray system.
Door frame finish colour in Little Greene PORTLAND STONE 77.
Fitted with robust multi-point Espag locking systems for security.
Supplied pre-hung with 4" stainless steel ball-bearing hinges, ensuring seamless operation.

Building Success Together: Central Joinery Group's Recent Director Team Promotions

After leading the business for over 30 years, Neil Bark the current Managing Director has handed over the reigns on the 1st of April 2024.

It is with credit to Neil that Central Joinery Group has become the business it is today as a leading manufacturer of staircases , windows , doors and specialist joinery .

Neil will still have involvement within the business going forward and be taking on a new specialist role. As Neil hands over the Managing Director title, this of course means exciting new promotional opportunities within the team.

Central Joinery Group now boast a team of friendly and ambitious directors who are all working hard to deliver Central Joinery Groups trusted exceptional craftsmanship and service to all clients.

New Investments - Working Towards A Carbon-Neutral World

We’re excited to share the latest updates on playing our part in a carbon-neutral world.

This new investment of the Ecogate system twinned with our biomass boiler and solar panels is allowing Central Joinery Group to play their part in a carbon-neutral world.

By installing Ecogate auto-dampers to the proposed individual production machines, along with the Ecogate GreenBOX central controllers and Ecogate PowerMASTER inverter drive systems, it is possible to take advantage of the actual working periods of process machines; reducing the overall extraction volume to match actual demand, and thereby reduce the power consumed by the system.

In addition, the Ecogate system detects when no production is taking place on the extraction line and slows, or shuts down, the dust handling fan set as required. All the above optimisation works completely automatically.

The system has not only improved the reduction of wood dust, but it will also produce a staggering 113,325.45 kWh annual saving and reduces our Co2 emissions by 26 tonnes per annum.

There is also a significant noise reduction that is resulting in reduced dB throughout the site.

Overall, this innovation has resulted in a significant Health and Safety improvement that will protect our employees, improve the dB for the neighbouring village, and have a greater impact on the environment.

WOW what a week... on Thursday 6th April we celebrated Central Joinery's 30th anniversary!

To commemorate the 30 years of Central Joinery, we dug deep to find some throwback images of Central Joinery (and Neil!).

During the last 3 decades of producing bespoke joinery and trading within the marketplace, we have undertaken a plethora of very interesting and unusual projects and covered more of the UK than we ever imagined!

It’s been an amazing 30 years since we launched, and we are so excited for the future of Central Joinery Group.

We want to take this as an opportunity to thank everyone for being a part of our journey, whether it be from day 1 or day 10,975!

Our 30th Anniversary Celebrations!

On the day of our 30th anniversary, we closed the business and threw a celebration at Burton Albion Football Club for all of our colleagues to have an afternoon of fun!

Our staff had a fantastic time listening to a live singer, being amazed by magic tricks and participating in a free employee raffle with lots of incredible prizes including weekend spa breaks, a helicopter ride, an Apple iPad and a whole lot more.

How Do You Care For External Joinery?

Care and protect your external joinery from damage to maintain a flawless look

External joinery provides one of the very first impressions of your property, therefore it makes perfect sense to ensure that your external joinery is kept in good condition, welcoming guests. Maintaining your external joinery will help to define the character of your property for decades to come.

Unfortunately, your beautiful external joinery is exposed to the wonderful weather elements we have to deal with, which can cause the development of a tired appearance over an extended period of time. Of course, this is the last thing you want to happen when you've put all your time, money and effort into finding the perfect external door, windows, garage or gate!

By giving your external joinery the correct care and attention it needs on a frequent basis, you can help to prolong its lifespan and maintain that super fresh appearance for far longer!

Providing adequate care and attention to your external joinery on an annual basis is exactly what your joinery requires to help maintain a clean 'fresh' finish. We're quick to apply standard practice and products when it comes to cleaning, however additional caution should be taken to avoid causing any unnecessary damage to your specialist joinery e.g. using harsh chemicals. Our joinery specialists share their expert advice for maximum results and longevity of your external joinery.

Wash with mild detergent and water at least once a year to remove any surface dirt

Check hinge mechanisms and handles biannually for ease of use & lubricate with light oil

Clean weather seals annually removing any dust and grime

Ventilators should be cleaned annually to remove any dust and grime

Ensure you do not use any harsh chemicals or get chemicals on the wrong materials

Cleaning processes may vary slightly based on the material and finish of your exterior joinery, therefore if you are unsure about the correct procedures and products for cleaning it's advised you get in touch with the supplier to confide in their recommendations.

You may eventually be required to perform further maintenance for your external joinery to maintain fantastic upkeep. This may involve a deeper clean or re-painting (if applicable) to switch out the tired paintwork for a brand new appearance! The timeframe for this will be entirely dependent on the level of exposure to elements or damage since the date it was installed, however this not likely to happen within the first decade.

Firstly, we want to thank you all for contributing towards a fantastic 2022. As a team, we are super excited about everything we have planned for 2023.

We are starting the year off with new innovations and a heartwarming customer story!

Staircase Innovations... Making Installation Easier

We're working hard to make installing our staircases simpler and quicker by introducing new staircase innovations that will be launching in February.

90% of our staircase components will now be supplied pre-machined in the factory ready for installation, reducing time on site manually cutting.

To improve the traditional mortice and tenon joint and stop the newel from having any unwanted holes drilled to fix the handrail, we are developing a new handrail “Click-it System”. This new innovation is designed to speed up your handrail installation and to ensure your handrail is always installed at the correct height.

Stay tuned for further announcements to be made once the development and all tests are complete.

Packington Hall was an English country house. It was originally built in 1720 for the Babington family. Designed by architect Benjamin Wyatt, who also designed nearby Swinfen Hall.

Reverend Thomas Levett served as rector of Whittington Church for 40 years from 1796 to 1836. He was the third member of the Levett family to serve as vicar of Whittington.

Biomass Boiler

Central Joinery Group operates with a biomass boiler. Biomass heating works by burning natural fuel that is intended for a specific system, whether that be wood pellets, logs or wood chips, creating heat that can be utilised as a part of a heating system which we use our waste wood for.

BWF Certified

The BWF Stair Scheme is the only accreditation and certification scheme of its kind in the UK and Central Joinery Group is BWF Certified.

Ranging from domestic, common and fire-protected common stairs, the standard expected of the manufacturers for their stairs is high with a drive to improve quality and safety in use, supported by an effective factory production control system and adherence to the core principles and values laid down in the BWF Code of Conduct.

At Central Joinery Group, we are regularly audited to ensure our products and production meet these high standards, and the new third-party certification for fire-protected common stairs, supported by The Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) is opening up new markets for timber stairs. The scheme is managed by the BWF, and includes manufacturers and approved suppliers, who play an essential part in maintaining these high standards.

Case Study: Yorkshire Sliding Sash Windows

Beautiful cottage restored to its former glory whilst saving on energy bills

This Grade II listed cottage, previously had the ground floor windows changed to a flush casement design without prior to planning permission. The new owner contacted us with the view of restoring the windows back to the original style. But also wanted to have the added benefit of double glazing and draft seals if possible.

After designing a slender profile window that featured both double glazing and draft seals and that also matched seamlessly with the original single glazed windows on the first floor. Our client submitted the drawings to the local council for approval.

As you can see from the photos, the results clearly speak for themselves. The cottage is now restored back to its intended traditional style and our client also has the added benefit of a warmer home with lower energy bills.

Toughened Glass

You may think of glass as delicate, but the particular type of heat-treated glass used in balustrades is exceptionally strong it is called toughened glass.

Toughened glass cannot be cut after being treated, so it’s important to collect the correct dimensions before ordering (don't worry, our expert team handle this for you). The panel sizes and glass thickness you require depends on the system and environment your bespoke staircase is being fitted in.

Fittings

The toughened glass panels can be fixed to the handrail, base rail and newel posts using simple but sturdy stainless-steel glass clamps or brackets. These come in two different sizes. If clamps are used, there will be a 20mm gap between the glass and both the underside of the handrail and the top of the base rail, as well as a 20mm gap between each glass panel and the newel post.

However, an alternative option is to affix the glass directly into the wood underneath the handrail, at the top of the base rail and in the side of each newel post. This is sometimes known as “inline” glass.

Details & Finishing Touches

If you choose clamps or brackets to hold your toughened glass panels in place, you may be pleased to know that the edges of the glass have been bevelled to avoid sharp edges as part of its treatment.

You can, however, opt for “sharp corner” glass panels. This doesn’t mean that they are dangerous - it’s simply the description of a design that allows the corners of the panels to follow the right-angle created by the newel and handrail - or the newel and base rail - more closely and neatly, coming to a slight point.

“Curved corner” glass panels, on the other hand, provide a softer look, with the corners of each section of glass being radiused.

This information is here to help you take the best possible staircase picture so that we can ensure a standardised consistent approach and ensure that your staircase is set off in its best light.

Landscape NOT Portrait

Please take pictures in landscape mode to make sure that the image can be clearly seen. (Wider images are better than tall ones as cropping will occur when publishing photos on the website).

Bigger Is Better

Ensure your images are at least 1920x1080px in size.

A bigger photo clearly shows all of the detail of the high-quality workmanship in its best light which is lost in a smaller picture. How To Care For Your Oak Staircase

Keep your oak staircase looking brand new for longer with these helpful tips...

Oak staircases are our most popular staircase style and it’s easy to see why it’s so on-trend. Not only is it strong but the warm colour and beautiful natural grain make it one of the most attractive hardwoods which can give your home an elegant and timeless look whether in a traditional or contemporary setting. Caring for your oak staircase will prolong both its beauty and its Wow Factor!

Staircase maintenance is easy but with these pointers will keep it looking new for longer.

Avoid Damage

Try to avoid wearing shoes on your oak staircase which can introduce and compress grit into the stairs and cause scuff marks, as can dog claws. Heeled shoes also compress more weight over a smaller surface area which can be detrimental to your stair treads. You can mitigate the impact of shoes and pets by carpeting your stairs or adding a runner to reduce the amount of wear on the treads whilst leaving the attractive wood visible.

Cleaning

Unless a particular stain is requested, our oak staircases are finished with a clear lacquer to preserve the natural colour of the wood.

Your stairs receive a lot of wear and tear so it keeps your staircase looking good, it helps to reduce the build-up of grit and dust, which can cause damage over time. This can be done with regular brushing or vacuuming of the treads and by wiping the stringers and balustrade with a clean, dry cloth (avoiding any cleaning agents or solvents which can damage the lacquer). If needed a clean damp cloth can be used and the area then dried with a soft, dry cloth. Handrails should also be wiped down with a clean cloth to reduce the build of dirt and grease from hands.

Please take care when mopping floors at the base of the stairs as the cleaning fluids, dirt and the abrasive act of mopping can damage the lacquer or paint at the base of the stairs.

Glass balustrades can be cleaned like any other glass in your home. Remember, glass is for looking through, not looking at. That said, you’ll be sure to want it looking clear and smear free. Take care to ensure any glass cleaning liquid does not overspray or drip onto the wood as this could cause damage to the lacquer. You may also choose to remove rings and bracelets to reduce the chances of scratching the glass while cleaning.

Direct Sunlight

Many kinds of wood such as oak can change colour with age and can be bleached by the ultraviolet rays of direct sunlight. These are not faults but just natural properties of wood. It is best to mitigate against this with blinds or curtains where possible. If you have ornaments or other objects placed on the surface of the wood, ensure they are moved periodically and carefully into a different position to avoid discolouration in the shape of the object in the surface.

Temperature & Humidity

The timber we use is kiln dried and like all wood can move slightly over time as the timbers settle, this is completely normal. Exposure to humidity (such as damp) or extremes in temperature can cause the timbers to crack, split, twist or warp. As a rule, if you are comfortable in your surroundings, your staircase should be too.

Central Joinery Group is fortunate to be part of the Haseley Manor project manufacturing and restoring staircases for Spitfire Bespoke Homes

Haesley Manor Architecture

The house was built from 1875 to 1878, to designs by the architect William Young , for Alfred Hewlett, a coal merchant from Lancashire . It has walls of rock-faced stone and plain tile roofs, and is in the Gothic and Elizabethan styles, including a Gothic turret . It has been Grade II listed since January 1987, giving it legal protection from unauthorised alternations or demolition.

Haseley Manor Uses

In 1930, the house was acquired by the Birmingham Society for the Care of Invalid Children, and put to use as a convalescent home and hospital school for girls. It was then purchased by Birmingham Education Authority and, from 1941, became Haseley Hall Residential Open-Air School For Boys, and was used as a children's home and orphanage .

At some subsequent point is was owned by W & T Avery . By the mid-1960s, it was being used as staff college by the British Motor Corporation , and its nationalised successor, British Leyland . It was next used as a business and conference centre.

The Future of Haesley Manor

Haseley Manor was acquired subsequently by Spitfire Bespoke Homes who subdivided and converted it into a number of private residences, completed circa 2018, including thirteen one, two and three-bedroom apartments. An additional nine residences, including three garden villas and five terraced houses, were created in its grounds. The project architects were Lapworth Architects.

Transforming an old barn in Tansley into a beautiful new home with a feature staircase

Glebe Farm was the oldest house in Tansley but fell into disrepair and was demolished and rebuilt in 1954. The barn however still dates to Tudor times and was being used as a workshop when John bought the property.

The first project was to strip the house out and make it largely open plan downstairs with some bi-fold windows at the front. This took John the best part of a year. John then built a link from the house to the barn.

John took the floors out upstairs and downstairs and stud walled the interior completely.

They had to cut through the large beams to make a doorway from the top of the stairs into a dressing room and bathroom then into the master bedroom. John knew all along he wanted the oak staircase to be a major feature in the house lots of thought was put into the design to achieve the required look.

Doing the project meant John could have a large, secluded house but remain in the village he had lived in for the past 30 years.
